Rhoads Memorial Archives: Paul Rhoads Memorial

Gift

Gift Establishes Rhoads Archives

Rhoads, Paul Newspaper PhotoPaul Rhoads, Jr., C'40 was a lifelong resident of Frederick, Maryland and had a career as a microbiologist at Fort Detrick. He loved Mount St. Mary's University and was an active alumnus until his death. In 2006, I awarded him the President's medal to honor him for his unwavering service, leadership, dedication and friendship. He was 85 at the time.

With great respect and deep appreciation, I announce a lead gift from Paul and his brother, the late Charles G. Rhoads to establish The Rhoads Archives. The Archives plaque is inscribed as follows: "For their generosity to Mount St. Mary's and commitment to preserve the history of this venerable University and the legacy of our father, Fr. John DuBois."

Paul passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010.  He is survived by many children and grandchildren, nieces and nephew. Two of them are also Mount graduates: Philip R. Loy, C'68 and his daughter Colleen Loy Daniels, C'96. On behalf of all of us at Mount St. Mary's, I extend my deepest condolences to the Rhoads family. Paul and Charles' memories will live on through the Archives' name.

Sincerely,

powell sig
