Course Description
This course introduces students to the peoples and traditions that gave birth to the multicultural Atlantic world of the early modern period (roughly 1450-1850). Particular attention is given to the cultural encounters of peoples from Africa, Europe, and the Americas; the rise of modern“ways of knowing” and the authority structures and cultures shaping knowledge; and the emergence of trans-Atlantic traditions of liberty and slavery.
Assignment Description
This project will challenge you to research how the technology and innovations of the Industrial Revolution changed the lives of ordinary working people in a particular craft or trade. To complete such a project, you will be organized into groups and taught how to utilize the online research database Early English Books Online (EEBO), as well as other historical and scholarly databases.
